Glastonbury Abbey

some pictures of Glastonbury Abbey from August 2018

other pics from 2014 are HERE ... it is a wonderful place to be and to draw

The abbey from the orchard - apples kept falling all around

the Abbey from the remains of the cloisters - midmorning

a chunk of masonry from the Abbey , resting on the remains of the cloister wall

the abbot's kitchen from the herb garden

view of the Abbey from the herb garden , through a hole in the hedge

the Abbot's kitchen ( left ) just as I was drawing this bush , a couple of blokes arrived in a truck with chainsaws and cut chunks off it

in the orchard , someone had arranged the windfall apples in the shape of a heart

from the hawthorn tree behind the Abbot's fish pond

view of the Abbey from across the Abbot's fish pond

the Lady chapel around midday in August from the bench by the wall - the three windows at the West make slanting shadows

view from the picnic shelter - cosmo flowers growing in the box to right of picture - squirrels chase each other across the grass

Crows nesting in the ruins of the abbey

the view from behind the high altar - early evening

the sun was moving across the sky from left to right as I was drawing

this was nearly the last day of the year that the Abbey grounds are open until 8pm - from the 1st of September they close at 6pm - but the light in the evening is wonderful

a very quick sketch in the evening light as they are ringing the bell for people to get out of the grounds and go home
